Purpose

Tomisin Adebari

It has been two years since I last posted anything, and sometimes when I look back at my previous posts, I cringe! I’m in college now, and with better experiences in writing, I still cringe at my thought process from two years ago. I am naturally ambitious, often swimming in more activities and hobbies than I can handle. With a desire to excel in everything I do, it’s easy to lose sight of the purpose behind any of them.

I may have spent the last two years working on making this website look its best, brainstorming different ideas that led me away from the original purpose. Talk about being a perfectionist… As I sift through all my emotions and thoughts, I believe the best way to come back after such a long break is to explain why there was one.

I started writing in 2020 to disprove any disbelief I had in my writing skills, as proof that I can do anything. Writing was also a way to advocate for the things I truly believe in. But what was it that I believed in and what was the purpose? Do I still believe in those things and where do I stand now?

“Inspire” began as a way for me to tackle my own self-esteem issues, with the hope that by overcoming them, I could help others do the same. But what do you call someone with low self-esteem trying to give advice on confidence? It’s ironic, isn’t it?

I knew that to continue, I had to break out of my shell and find enough self-confidence to push through. But the problem with being a perfectionist is that “enough” is never enough, and so I stayed away for a very long time.

Am I fully confident now? No. But is anybody ever really fully confident?

Let’s keep it short and simple: never forget your purpose and why you started something in the first place. Sometimes it’s okay to take a break, but your purpose should be strong enough to swing you back into action. It might have been a long time, but unlike One Direction, I am here again and I am excited for this journey.

Welcome back to Inspire!
