What Are You Rushing For?

Tomisin Adebari

I am always talking about my phone. I have this love-hate relationship with it. On one hand, it has exposed me to so many opportunities, made me see the world beyond my little bubble. On the other hand… it is a distraction. I need balance.

Anyway. The other day I was thinking about how I need to get away from it. How much better I feel when I spend time without it. And then I remembered being younger and not having a phone. How badly I wanted one. Now that I have it, I can’t wait to put it down lol.

To be honest, I am really glad I did not grow up on the internet. I am grateful for all those times I played outside. With sand. With my imagination. The fort plays. The floor is lava. Just being a kid.

How many times did you wish you were an adult when you were younger? Making adult choices. Doing whatever you wanted. No bedtime. No rules.

Now that you’re an adult… how’s that working out for you? lol

I think about this a lot. How we spend so much time wanting what we don’t have. Comparing ourselves to people whose highlight reels we scroll through. Craving to be in a position we’re not in yet. Rushing time.

Have you ever wanted something so bad, finally got it, and then felt… empty? Like “okay… so what now?

What are you rushing to have today? Who are you comparing yourself to? What is that one thing you’re craving so much that it’s stopping you from enjoying what you already have?

I am in the trenches with you on this one but I don’t think wanting more is the problem. I think it is forgetting that where you are right now is also part of the story. The waiting, the in-between, the “not there yet”, all of it.

And maybe comparison isn’t the only thief of joy.
